![]() I am the only user of the database, although I have shared copies with a couple of people in my field. I did some queries in SQL in the military in the early 90s, but nothing database related other than this since. Some additional information: I am computer literate but not network literate. Is there an alternative to Access that doesn't have to 2GB file size limitation? Maybe something like OpenOffice or other freeware? I'm retired and don't really want to spend money on this. One of the tables has 2 attachment columns, a web link column, a text column, and the primary key. Is there a more elegant way (read less filesize detrimental) to attach/link source documents to a record in Access? I used the first thing I found in Help when I created the Access document and I know that is not always optimum. There are only 1500 records in the database, and if I strip out the attachments if drops to 3Mb. Each record contains 1-15 attachments (PDF files, jpegs, movies) that are source documents for the information in the record. I think part of the problem with file size is the attachments. A couple of years ago I hit the limit and ended up splitting it into 2 based on date (pre or post 1989) but I keep finding stuff pre 1989 and now that part is again at the max file size. I have an Access 2007 database (5 tables and input forms) I have been using for a long time to collect information on certain historical incidents. Plus all the answers about SQL scared the bejeezus out of me. I originally posted this in r/DatabaseHelp and was recommended to try here also. ![]()
